Ralph Nader called him the 'historian of corporations'
and a new, inspiring reading of history was his special
gift. Richard said that the American revolution was
fought less against the crown but against the crown
corporations. And he believed that it's time to remember
that fight and assert sovereignty of the people over
the corporate state and ask: Why should the many be
governed by the few?" In the last 15 years he had
been an important member of POCLAD, the Project on
Corporations, Law and Democracy and CELDF, the Community
Environmental Legal Defense Fund. His lasting legacy are
the Democracy Schools that continue to be taught across
the country, and a pamphlet: Taking Care of Business
describes the process of de-chartering corporations.

Eric Margolis: WWI, German transatlantic cable cut, British war propagandana pumped in:
2:34 rockwell.com/lewrockwell-show/..the%5Fhistory%5Fof%5Fthe%5Fwest.mp3
One of the most important advantages for the British was
their ability to control the flow of news and information
about the war. Within days of the outbreak of hostilities,
the British navy cut Germanys transatlantic cable link with
the United States. Consequently, American newspapers became
almost completely dependent on British sources for news
about the war (Sproule 1997, 6). Furthermore, the British
quickly established a largely covert propaganda operation
located at Wellington House and under the direction of
Charles Masterman. Masterman wisely chose Canadian
born Sir Gilbert Parker to direct British propaganda
toward the neutral United States. Since Parker had
traveled extensively in the United States and was thus
well acquainted with American political culture, he was
aptly situated to exploit his many personal contacts and
be sensitive to the complexity of attempting to influence
American domestic opinion.

Carey advocated the continuance of Abraham Lincoln's
Greenbacks policy of debt-free, government-issued
money as a way of freeing America's economy from
British capitalists, who sought to control America's
wealth. (They eventually accomplished this by shutting
out Greenbacks and putting America on a gold standard
with the Coinage Act of 1873.) He also suggested raising
the reserve requirements on private banks up to 50%.

lynching of Muammar Gaddafi :

Another example is the Lockerbie bombing (21 December 1988, 270
killed): the investigators identified the owner of the suitcase
containing the bomb and the timer thanks to the testimony of a
Maltese shopkeeper who had sold the pair of trousers also located
in the booby-trapped suitcase. At that point, the Scottish justice
system brought charges against two Libyan agents, Abdel Basset Ali
Mohmed Al Megrahi and Al Amin Khalifa Fhimah, while the Security
Council took sanctions against Libya. In the end, to get the
sanctions lifted, Gaddafi agreed to extradite the two agents
(the first was sentenced to life imprisonment and the second was
acquitted) and pay $ 2.7 billion in compensation, while continuing
to proclaim his complete innocence. Subsequently, in August 2005,
the chief Scottish investigator declared that the main piece of
evidence, the bomb timer, had been planted at the crime scene
by a CIA agent. Then, the expert who had analyzed the timer for
the court admitted he had manufactured it himself before the CIA
"dropped it off." Finally, the Maltese shopkeeper admitted having
received $ 2 million for bearing false witness. The Scottish
authorities decided to review the case, but the health of Abdel
Basset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi did not allow it.

Which brings me to this question for you, Kevin Zeese, and that
is, what models are you using for the movement you're trying to
build now?
ZEESE 12:50:18
Well, we look at a lot -- a whole range of movements to
decide. What we're really looking at, more than anything else,
is materials from the Einstein Institute, which talks about how
nonviolent movements can end political regimes. And they mainly
focus on dictatorships, but they also apply to us. And one of the
things that the Einstein Institute books talk about are weakening
the pillars of power that hold up governments in place, and that's
military, police, civil servants, business, youth, media, et cetera.

At 5:30 Tarpley mentions presence of "color revolution apparatus"
in OWS; specifically Ivan Marovic of 'Otpor!'. Here Marovic
addresses Occupy Wall Street :
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkM3BBtc7N0
www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1667778/pg1
Along with a group of other Serbian student leaders, Marovic
formed the OTPOR (Resistance) movement in 1998. OTPOR used popular
protest and peaceful provocation to build anti-Milosevic support
in the 1999-2000 period. Although OTPOR started by mobilizing
young people, it quickly expanded into a mass movement with
members from all sectors of society. As one of the most visible
leaders of OTPOR, Marovic best represented the common youth of
Serbia and organized rallies and marches in the lead-up to the
September 2000 election that ousted the Milosevic regime. After
2000, OTPOR focused on building democratic society in Serbia and
opposing corruption. OTPOR has become a model for resistance
movements in other countries, including Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus
and Albania.
After seeing video footage of Ivan Marovic addressing the Wall
Street Protestors, I find that you must be warned about the
infiltration of OTPOR into the Occupy Wall Street movement.

"We started wondering whether the same kind of tools
that were used in Egypt , and the sort of regime-change

The ensuing conversation eventually led to the "Occupy

the U.S. federal government.

Begonia S.C. and Luis M.C., a Spanish couple who attended those
16 Beaver discussions, had an idea. (They asked that their full
names not be used to avoid looking like publicity seekers.) In
the spring, they had returned to Spain for the protests sweeping
the country in reaction to staggering unemployment, a stagnant
economy, and hapless politicians. On May 15, 20,000 indignados,
or the outraged, had poured into Madrid's Puerta del Sol,
transforming the grand plaza into their own version of Tahrir
Square. Despite police bans against demonstrations, the plaza
soon became the focal point of Spain's social media-fueled "15-M
Movement" (named for May 15th), which spread to hundreds of cities
in Spain and Italy. When they returned to the United States,
Begonia and Luis brought the lessons of 15-M with them.
--my note/CRUCIAL:
At 16 Beaver, they suggested replicating a core part of the
movement in the US: the general assembly.
Open assemblies like the GA have roots in classical anarchism,
Native American tribal councils, Quakerism, and the postWorld
War II feminist, civil-rights, and anti-nuclear movements. Ask
those who have been at Liberty Plaza since the beginning, and
youll probably hear about the influence of the assembly-based May
15 movement in Spain, which a few members of Occupy Wall Street
witnessed or participated in. In turn, several Spaniards have been
helping out at the plaza, especially at the media center watching,
offering advice, and reaching out to assembly movements around the
world.

#occupyMilwaukee, http://twitter.com/OccupyMilwaukee
The following ideas are largely from a "mass strike"
strategy/analysis/must listen Saturday podcast:
http://tarpley.net/audio/WCR-20111015.mp3
We need to tranform this movement into a "mass strike". Don't
obsess over the occupy meme, focus on policy, ideas, demands,
platform. Let leaders emerge organically. Majority rules, not
this "go nowhere" consensus.
Who are these (parental) "facilitators"? Are they helping
or slowing us down? Where did this general assembly
governance model come from? This model is in danger of
stunting/nullifying/sidelining the power of what can become a mass
strike movement; this governace model may be a Procrustean bed.

Model platforms to consider:

Taylor on Fiscal and Monetary Policy: 16:30
20:30 zero interest for federal funds rate
...assume a particular U.S. depository institution,
in the normal course of business, issues a loan. This dispenses
money and decreases the ratio of bank reserves to money loaned. If
its reserve ratio drops below the legally required minimum, it
must add to its reserves to remain compliant with Federal Reserve
regulations. The bank can borrow the requisite funds from another
bank that has a surplus in its account with the Fed.
The interest rate that the borrowing bank pays to the
lending bank to borrow the funds is negotiated between the
two banks, and the weighted average of this rate across
all such transactions is the federal funds effective rate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter%5Fschool :
Charter schools in the United States are primary or secondary
schools that receive public money (and like other schools, may
also receive private donations) but are not subject to some of
the rules, regulations, and statutes that apply to other public
schools in exchange for some type of accountability for producing
certain results, which are set forth in each school's charter....
The schools themselves are still non-profit, in the same way that
public schools may be managed by a for-profit corporation.

Jesse Jackson WI Solidarity Rally at Milwaukee Inner City Church
Last night went to hear Jesse Jackson at Metropolitan Ministry Baptist Church
(1345 Burleigh Street, Milwaukee).
After my white stiffness eased, the incredible singers/singing
lifted me up. The black/religious leadership culture confuses me,
but I get that "is works".
Sheila Cochran had a "mean" hard hitting, inspiring speech.
Walker refused the 810M rail money; the fiber/Internet money, so
"it's not about the money"
mass transit to be 'cut loose' from budget, must pay it's own way by 2012
huge cuts to University system, to k-12 schools
Badger Care cuts
call to action for the Milwaukee reverends to go to Madison
www.milwaukeelabor.org/who%5Fwe%5Fare/
Jackson went after the banks/Glass Steagall, bail out of the rich,
need to build our own homes, to create minority businesses, to
fund job training, to vote , and to register to vote.
Those that don't vote - like a turkey organizing a thanksgiving dinner.
He called for marches in downtown Milwaukee and Madison, demanding jobs, job training. Repeatedly compared Walker to Wallace. Called for a widening coalition..
The churches of MICAH may be joining the "big WISolidarity tent".
He emphasized that the worst thing is to succumb to an acceptance
of the terrible conditions - union busting, dearth of local community
businesses, no jobs, poverty etc.
At least a dozen other speakers (many reverends); one from Detroit,
vowed to deliver busloads of protestors from several states to Madison.
In general, mood was inspiring, defiant, determined, and kind.
Tabling by NAACP (2745 N MLK drive) and workingamerica.org.

was there last night - arrived about 445pm, un-educated estimate:
9 thousand people (inside and outside)
from about 5pm until 730pm sat 2/19, inside and outside
of capital blg, saw perhaps 10 tea party people over those hours -
all in one place at about 6pm (on steps outside cap blg).
impressions
peaceful, well organized, (cold weather/hat required)
we have a wonderful capital, great crowd there, some
clearly camped out (there for days), signs taped to walls,
signs draped over/into dome interior
singing, political chanting (much of entire crowd participating,
in waves from time to time), music, dancing in lower center of dome
an info center in one region under the dome,
with fact sheets, petitions, "tabling" outside for various other causes

My interpretation of Richard D Wolff (about 61m in): Gov
buys bad debt and derivatives from banks. Since this is
a purchase, banks do not have to pay it back. Gov just
holding these off the market, if they sold there would be
huge losses. These purchases, infusions of cash to the
banks, that the banks never have to pay back, in effect
mean US Government bought the banks - they have no longer
earned right to be called private banks.

The (Honduras) coup was definitely acting on behalf of companies like

multinational corporations that are exploiting the people and

Businesses often depend upon bank financing for working
capital. When banks are unwilling to provide it, they are
bankrupted and workers lose their jobs. Hence we have both
currency inflation and depression at the same time. It's as if
there were a huge counterfeiting ring using bogus money to gobble
up a large proportion of the available goods and services from
the market. Counterfeiters only take; they do not put anything
of value into the market. Hence, as real value is drained from
the economy, sellers raise prices in order to compensate for the
increased supply of money. Meanwhile, those who find themselves
among the army of the unemployed are willing to take less pay for
whatever work they can find in order to acquire basic necessities
of life.

Prof Peter Dale Scott, FED emergancy declarations suspending US Constition:
The creation of NORTHCOM in April 2002, constitutes a
blatant violation of both Canadian and Mexican territorial
sovereignty. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced
unilaterally that US Northern Command would have jurisdiction
over the entire North American region. Canada and Mexico were
presented with a fait accompli. US Northern Command's jurisdiction
as outlined by the US DoD includes, in addition to the continental
US, all of Canada, Mexico, as well as portions of the Caribbean,
contiguous waters in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans up to 500
miles off the Mexican, US and Canadian coastlines as well as the
Canadian Arctic.

One moon, one careless finger pointing --
are these two things or one?
The question is a pointer guiding

Look deeper. The mystery calls and calls:
No moon, no finger -- nothing there at all.

suppressing is worst thing you can do, increasing cog load
cog chg 27:05
sharpen your awareness of your internal states
"put on brakes", activate PFC more, limbic less, "dampen threat response"
label emotion, think it, if acceptable say it (reduces arousal)
( do not re-narrate the bad story, do not "go into story", just a short label )
reframe, verbal re-appraisal - chg interpretation of event, adjust
to threat, invent new story, chg your plans
not doing all these things, makes you tense, less functional, less

The conviction of 23 Americans and two Italians for
kidnapping an Egyptian cleric off the streets of Milan in
2003 in one sense is largely symbolic: The defendants were
tried in absentia, and the Italian government is not seeking
their extradition; barring a successful appeal, the two
governments may try to work out a clemency deal. Yet the
decision matters. It repudiates President Obama's expressed
desire to look away from the ugly past, and sends a strong
message that the U.S. government cannot operate outside the
law with impunity in the name of fighting terrorism.

Trilateral Commission:
rdworldtraveler.com/One_World_..ment/Trilateral_Commission_TBG.html
The cornerstone of PBS's programming is the evening
television news program, The NewsHour with Jim
Lehrer. Jim Lehrer, however, is a member of the Council
on Foreign Relations. For most of PBS' history, funding
was provided by AT&T [a CFR company]; Archer Daniels
Midland, whose Chairman Dwayne Andreas was a member of
the Trilateral Commission; PepsiCo [a CFR company],
whose newly promoted Chief Executive Officer, Indra
Krishnamurthy Nooyi, is a Bilderberger and a Trilateral
Commission Executive Committee member; and Smith Barney
[a CFR company], one of the world's leading financial
institutions. Furthermore, Smith Barney is interlocked
with Citigroup Inc., a global financial services
company that is a member of the Bilderberg Group, the
CFR and the Trilateral Commission.
Journalists who participate in The NewsHour With Jim
Lehrer are some of the best-known political pundits in
the United States, such as Paul Gigot, David Gergen,
William Kristol and William Safire. All of them belong
to the Bilderberg Group, the CFR or the Trilateral
Commission.

"Notes on Serene-Reflection"
by Zen Master Hung Chih, of the Tsao Tung School :
Silently and serenely one forgets all words;
Clearly and vividly That appears before him.
When one realizes it, it is vast and without edges;
In its Essence, one is clearly aware.
Singularly reflecting is this bright awareness,
Full of wonder is this pure reflection.
Dew and the moon,
Stars and streams,
Snow on pine trees,
And clouds hovering on the mountain peaks -
From darkness, they all become glowing bright;
From obscurity, they all turn to resplendent light.
Infinite wonder permeates this serenity;
In this Reflection all intentional efforts vanish.
Serenity is the final word [of all teachings];
Reflection is the response to all [manifestations].
Devoid of any effort,
This response is natural and spontaneous.
Disharmony will arise
If in reflection there is no serenity;
All will become wasteful and secondary
If in serenity there is no reflection.
The Truth of serene-reflection
Is perfect and complete.
Oh look ! The hundred rivers flow
In tumbling torrents
To the great ocean !

Ms. McKinney and other Free Gaza 21 members have refused
to sign a self-incriminating 'deportation form' stating
that the Spirit of Humanity was violating the Israeli
blockade and trespassing Israeli territorial waters by
attempting to deliver supplies to Gaza. In fact, the
Spirit of Humanity was in international waters when it was
illegally seized by the Israeli navy in an act of piracy. The
imprisonment of the Free Gaza 21 and the Israeli navy's
jamming the boat's navigation system are further violations
of international lawas are Israel's blockade of Gaza,
occupation of Palestinian territories, and violations of
Palestinians' human rights.

Chile is a unique country in Latin America. Until the coup in
1973, Chile boasted the oldest and most stable democracy in
Latin America. Allende, was the only socialist president in the
world to be elected in free democratic elections. Unfortunately,
Chile also is close to unique for the brutality exhibited by the
Pinochet regime, ranking only second from the top in that area.
In 1970 Salvador Allende was elected President and he nationalized
many big industries. In 1973 when Pinochet came to power through
a coup, he privatized the industries. And with this action
Chile was well on its way to becoming more like every other
Latin American country. However, Pinochet, in 1990 peacefully
transferred power to Aylwin who was elected by the people.

"In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that
greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has
never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been
the path for the faint-hearted. for those who prefer leisure
over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather,
it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things .
some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their
labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards
prosperity and freedom.."
"As the New York caisson descended further than its Brooklyn
counterpart, the incidents of the bends increased, killing two
men. With no bedrock in sight, Roebling used his knowledge
of geology and mineralogy to make an amazing decision: stop
digging. It wasn't bedrock, but it was compacted sand."

In 1999, Larry Summers was a member of the
Clinton cabinet and a key supporter of Republican
Sen. Phil Gramm's bill to deregulate the banking
industry. Summers, along with fellow Secretary
Robert Rubin, supported this legislation repealing
safeguards put in place during the Great
Depression. Phil Gramm -- John McCain's economic
adviser who called the country's financial crisis
a "mental recession" from a "nation of whiners" --

A report written by Canadian intelligence officials prior to
the latest Gaza conflict calls the impact of Hamas rocket
attacks on Israel "primarily psychological."
The "secret" government document says that while Hamas had
launched thousands of crude Qassam rockets from northern
Gaza they were not powerful and had killed few Israelis.
--snip
The seven-page Intelligence Assessment says four Israeli
civilians were killed and 75 injured in 2,800 rocket attacks
between 2005 and 2007, when the report was produced.

I began to classify Soviet individuals within four categories,
which I will treat here as a distinct typology, though of course
any one person might not fit exactly into any one of these types.
I distinguished four groups: Ordinary citizens, Hard-liners,
Barking Dogs, and Termites.

The Dissident community of the 1970s demanded, above all, that
human rights should be respected. The basis for their claim was
the Soviet Union's acceptance of an important new document, the
Final Act of the Helsinki Accords. Few Westerners realized how
much it meant to those living in repressed Eastern bloc societies.

On the economic meltdown, by Elaine Meinelsupkis
( emsnews.wordpress.com/2008/12/..leads-to-suffocation-of-us-economy/ ):
Good grief. The housing/buy out/commodity bubbles were
GLOBAL. All sorts of economies suffered the same identical
bubbles. The engine for all this was an out of control
lending cycle. And the place with the cheapest credit rates
was the BANK OF JAPAN.
The Japanese carry trade flooded the planet with excess
credit. This creation of money was instantly translated into
other currencies so the yen could hide behind this screen of
other currencies suddenly surging in volume, in particular,
the dollar.
This flood of currency then sought somewhere it could go
and .grow. in the form of .investments.. Many countries had
investors using pirate islands in the Caribbean and Iceland
and other tiny principalities to .grow. this flood of lending
and this is why we had so many bubbles, suddenly.
When the Fed, trying to stem the tide, raised interest
rates starting in 2004, this made the carry trade WORSE. And
now, it is ending only because all central banks are rushing
to make their interest rates the same level as Japan.
So in Japan, the carry trade has reversed. The yen is now
getting stronger rather than weaker. And the flood of funny
money has ceased. Now, the Fed is trying to be the carry
trade! They are trying to flood the world with more debt when
the world is drowning in red ink!
No one is drowning worse than the US. Since ALL systems,
communist, anarchist, capitalist, democratic, autocratic,
large and small are now floundering for the exact same
reasons, we CANNOT blame Washington, DC for creating a system
that doesn't work via tax laws, etc.
On the other hand, the true problem lies in the floating
currency regime launched by Burns and Nixon in 1971. This
started the flood of easy credit. This CAN be fixed. This
MUST be fixed.

For us, this Securities Turnover Excise Tax (STET) was a revenue
source. For example, if we were to instate a .25 percent STET
(tax) on everystock, swap, derivative, or other trade today, it
would produce . in its firstyear . around $150 billion in revenue.
Wall Street would be generatingthe money to fund its own bailout.
(For comparison, as best I candetermine, the UK.s STET is .25
percent, and Taiwan just dropped theirs from.60 to .30 percent.)

"Why, then, has the US decided to destabilize a crucial ally? Within Pakistan,
some analysts argue that this is a carefully coordinated move to weaken the
Pakistani state yet further by creating a crisis that extends way beyond the
badlands on the frontier with Afghanistan.
Its ultimate aim, they claim, would be the extraction of the Pakistani
military's nuclear fangs. If this were the case, it would imply that
Washington was indeed determined to break up the Pakistani state, since the
country would very simply not survive a disaster on that scale.
In my view, however, the expansion of the war relates far more to the Bush
administration's disastrous occupation in Afghanistan. It is hardly a secret
that the regime of President Hamid Karzai is becoming more isolated with each
passing day, as Taliban guerrillas move ever closer to Kabul. "

"Energy Slave Equivalent:
So what do we measure our energy diet against? How do we perceive its
magnitude? Geologist Walter Youngquist suggests that we correlate energy
consumption to "person-power." One individual can contribute approximately .25
horsepower, so 1 PP = .25 hp = 186 watts = 635 BTU/hr. The energy diet
described below would require us to employ fifty-eight energy slaves working
24/7 without taking a break. Moreover, if "we purchased the energy in a barrel
of oil for the same price we pay for human labor ($5/hr), it would cost us
over $45,000."

misc audio links
--
People click on an mp3 link, and get distracted or
frustrated during the time it takes to download the mp3, and load
it into their audio player (it can take 10 minutes!). If your new to
audio, this is something you "need to deal with" for a while.
As you learn, and make some time to setup your browser to
handle a playlist, your player will let you hear a list entry in
seconds, and you may bounce from item to item in the list back and
forth quickly; the player does not need to download the mp3 any
way near entirely for you to hear it - so it's worth the effort to
learn about playlists, and audio players (e.g. winamp).
To listen to playlists and mp3s at home on windows I prefer the
free version of winamp over realplayer or zinf. winamp supports
the redirection in the feedburner podcast links that radio4all.net
is using - realplayer (in early 2009) can not handle these.
There are two types of playlists on my site - m3u, and pls. At
this point I have no idea on the advantages of one over the other;
the're both text files.
In one test case using firefox 2.x, when I clicked on a ".m3u"
link for the first time, firefox asked how to handle the file, I
told it to use 'winamp', and not to ask again. If you want to
adjust this again in firefox then
google for what is inside the double quotes below:
"site:http://support.mozilla.com Managing file types"
It's possible that playlists will not work
through a firewall, but that simple mp3 links will - the bulk of
yz4.org are simple mp3 links.
An advantage of a playlist: you can quickly jump from item to item
in the list, sampling a tiny portion of the show - as opposed to
clicking on a single link for an MP3, and waiting for the entire
show to download prior to playing ( my hunch is any browser will
do this w/a mp3 link unless you have customized it w/an "add
on"). As you jump thru the playlist you can delete or reorder the
items, so in the end you may have several hours of listening lined up.
Winamp also supports a good but not great playlist editor; good
for quickly deleting and re-ordering items. In general I'm happy
w/winamp, and intend to stick w/it.

"101 Dalmatian economists are certainly calling this one right: Bernanke and
company will not raise interest rates no matter what the hell happens to the
dollar, to inflation, to anything. This is because the Depression Japan model
is our template. The Bank of Japan utterly ignores inflation. They try to
suppress inflation by reducing the domestic economy to the barest necessities
and then try putting the lower population on a starvation diet. This can work
in the short run. Then, using this endless pool of free Funny Money. that
near-zero percent loans provide only for the export industries, they can
ruthlessly colonize the rest of the industrial planetary systems.
--snip
"The dual lending system Japan runs is now our own system: interest rates to
the wealthy 1% elites is set far below the rate of inflation. Interest rates
to the middle class run at a good 400-600 basis points over the rates set for
the ruling elites. And the poor pay 2000-100,000 basis points more in interest
on credit cards, quickie street loans and other schemes. The lower working
classes who need credit the most are put in perpetual financial jeopardy, the
middle class pays the full real rate of inflation but the top 1% of the US
economic classes get a special treat: super cheap loans!"
--snip
If the damn bankers want me and others to SAVE money rather than to beg for
loans, all they have to do is RAISE THE INTEREST RATES ON SAVINGS and the
billions of dollars will flow in like magic. THEY KNOW THIS. And they do NOT
want to do this! This gives savers power! This also forces the Federal Reserve
and the government to insure our savings via the FDIC method. This makes no
one in the ruling elites richer. It makes THEM POORER. No, the last thing
these clowns will do is the sensible, traditional thing: raise the rates they
pay us to save our money with their banks. Gads. This just pisses me off more
than anything.

...the health of the US population is disgracefully poor
compared with that of other rich countries. In the ranking
of countries by life expectancy in 1997, the United States
stood 25th, behind all the other rich countries and even a
few poor ones. The country that has won the gold medal in
this health Olympics every year since 1977, Japan, is also
tied for the gold medal in the smoking Olympics. That is, the
prevalence of smoking in Japan is tied with that in China
as the highest in the world and 3 times that of the United
States; yet, the Japanese do not die of smoking-related
diseases to the extent that Americans do.
...medical care may in fact cause harm than good. In the U.S.
alone, perhaps one in 10 deaths may be related to medical
care. We have all heard of mistakes made in hospitals, but
that is less than a quarter of the harm caused by health
care. Japan is no better here. They spend about half as much
money on health care, and probably do comparable amounts
of harm. At surgery for appendicitis, a normal appendix is
often removed, about six times more frequently than in the
U.S. It isn't their health care system that accounts for
"Smoke-utopia" it is the structure of their society.

Just discovered Immanuel Wallerstein.
Let us start the story on January 1, 1994. That day was
chosen for the beginning of the insurrection because it was
the day on which the North American Free Trade Association
(NAFTA) came into effect. The slogan that day was ¡Ya
basta! ("Enough is enough"). The Zapatistas were saying from
the outset that their five-century- long protest against
injustice and humiliation and demand for autonomy was
linked today organically to the worldwide struggle against
neo-liberalism and imperialism of which NAFTA was both a
part and a symbol.
--snip
Seattle in turn led to the creation in 2001 of the World
Social Forum (WSF), which has become the principal
meeting-ground of the world's antisystemic movements. And
if the Zapatistas themselves have never attended any WSF
meeting because technically they are an armed force, the
Zapatistas have remained an iconic movement within the WSF,
a sort of inspirational force.

a must listen on the Fed (29min):
--
Japanese "carry trade" turned on again:
This is very simple: all commodities in the last 3 years have been
rising rapidly and are now in hyperinflation due to Japan being
able, up until January, to hide this inflation from Japan through
the cruel and crude method of squeezing wages of the workers. No
matter how fast oil rose vis a vis the yen and it is worse than
in America, this didn't show up in the statistics for 'inflation'
due to Japan pulling the same ugly trick the US government pulls:
neither nation counts food or fuel in ANY inflation statistics! So
long as 'inflation' is confined to manufactured products, all is
well so long as worker's wages sop up all inflation. This kills
the working class, of course. But rulers throughout history
have tried this. Killing off the peasants, starving the workers,
enslaving populations has always been a nifty way to get rich. But
it is also amoral, evil and cruel.

week I'm going to play you the event pretty much in its
entirety. The participants spoke frankly and I heard a few
things I hadn't heard before that contradict congressional
claims of ignorance. Though the event's declared purpose was
an examination of the legality of the Iraq invasion, it was in
my view a historical document of mainstream Americans who set
out to use the supposed mechanisms of their democracy to find
instead lies and hypocrisy.

blurb on above show:
A political renegade, a man deeply committed not just
to combating social ills but to developing a vision
that might guide the Left, has produced a memoir. In
Remembering Tomorrow, Michael Albert writes about his
Sixties activism, his institution-building feats, his
radical theorizing, and his understanding of worker
self-management efforts in places like Venezuela and
Argentina.
Old (Wednesday, August 25th, 2004) but new to me ( heard today on radical radio's stream ):
Michael Dietrick, "A Professional Pilot's View of the
Events of 911." From Phase Two of The International
Citizens Inquiry into 911 in Toronto.
Tarpley - disses Zogby, possibly unfairly. Interesting about
Obama's economic advisor though..
Attack on Tarpley from the guy that makes the mp3 freely available:
As for Tarpley, beyond Saturday's slap at John
Zogby, his repeated epithets, smears, and
catch-phrases are quite Limbaughesque (if not
downright LaRouchean). It is a misuse of his
vaunted (formerly) great brain to spout such
blather in the service of the elite. He bowls
over the credulous with his big words, his
lapsing into Italian or German, and his air of
being a fount of inside information.
Scott Ritter on weapons inspection before Iraq War.
This got me out of bed last night, Ritter - the guy is a hero.

So when the central banks see everyone seeking
gold, this is a sign that they cannot get money via
savings. It is that simple! All the fancy charts,
graphs and stories told by economists leave out this
very simple lesson. If I have $100 in savings and
parking it in a bank reduces its value via inflation
by 10% or more a year, I will NOT put it there! I will
find a place where the $100 will grow faster than the
rate of inflation. A saver putting money in a bank who
then lends it at 3% less than the rate of inflation so
it loses value every year only to lend it to someone
who uses it to buy gold that is gaining value at more
than 3% a year, this is a 600 basis point spread! The
saver putting money in banks is subsidizing the gold
buyer who is using debt to buy gold and get richer!

To get ready for a WI Pub radio talk show on WI homeless today (
Tue 11 Mar 2008 ) I took these raw notes taken ~32:30+ into the show:
large scale barracks,
gymnasium full of cots
mostly poor, black and Latino people
disease spreads, unsafe living conditions; "low intensity
detention centers"
life expectancy of people in shelters significantly less
regimented existance: must leave in morning shelter xx and
can only return at night at yy
video surveillance
these were not legal forms of housing until 1979 or early '80s
FEMA and "nat coalition of the homeless" emerged in Washington
DC at about the same time in the early 80s
national coalition for the homeless
sued the city administration in NY around the right to shelter
when the NY State Constitution "GUARANTEES THE RIGHT TO A HOME"
the suite was around a right to shelter, it resulted in
creating the legislative infrastructure for "the shelter system"
which "here to fore had been illegal/inhumane"
you could not put people who were homeless in a barracks,
before "the coalition for the homeless" sued for
"the right to shelter" ( separate and distinct from the right
to a home )

public statements promoting comprehensive sex education, the
distribution of condoms in public schools, and the possibility of

year later. The statement Elders is often remembered for is when
she said masturbation is a part of human sexuality, and so perhaps
it should be taught to children.

seems to write quite a bit daily, fascinating read, about banking
system, currencies, central banks etc. Long reads, but worth it.
Elaine Meinel Supkis 'money matters'
Banks in aggregate have now burnt through all of their capital
and are forced to borrow reserves from the Fed in order to keep
lending. Total reserves for two weeks ending January 16 are $39.98
billion. Inquiring minds are no doubt wondering where $40 billion came
from. The answer is the Fed's Term Auction Facility. ( [121]See:
Mish's Global Economic Trend Analysis;) So the only reserves they have
is capital they borrowed from the Fed.
--snip
We are in the negative. I have never seen this in my life. I know it
happens in history. Rich people better watch out. They should not say,
'Let them eat...' ANYTHING. The easy loans can only happen when banks
have savings and since their asset base in the form of previous loans
are now being dragged heavily into negative territory and much of this
is since Xmas, they CANNOT give loans of ANY SORT at any price. They
are in a negative flow trap. The ONLY out is to RAISE INTEREST RATES.
Volker is chomping at the bit on the sidelines with fury. He knows,
like me, this is the only way out.
--snip
The banks are capital impaired because they are holding
nearly $600 billion in mortgage-backed assets which are declining in
value every month. This is forcing many banks to conceal their real
condition from investors while they scour the planet for the extra
capital they need to continue operations. As long as the banks are in
distress, consumer and business lending will dwindle and the economy
will continue to shrink. The main gear in the credit-generating
mechanism is now broken. The rate cuts can provide liquidity, but they
cannot bring insolvent banks back from the dead.
--snip
The United States has led the world into the greatest credit bust in
history, and yet, few people even know what has transpired. The US
massive current account deficit (nearly $800 billion) has been
recycling into US Treasuries and securities from foreign investors. Up
to this point, American markets were an attractive place to put one's
savings. The dollar was strong, and the stock market had a proven
record of profitability and transparency. But since President Bill
Clinton repealed Glass-Steagall in 1999, the markets have been
reconfigured according to an entirely new model, "structured finance".
Glass-Steagall was the last of the Depression-era bulwarks against the
merging of commercial and investment banks. As a result banking has
changed from a culture of protection (of deposits) to risk taking,
which is the securities business. Through financial innovation the
investment banks created myriad structured debt instruments which they
sold through their Enron-like off balance sheets operations (SIVs and
Conduits) Now, trillions of dollars of these subprime and
mortgage-backed bonds---many of which were rated triple A---are held
by foreign banks, retirement funds, insurance companies, and hedge
funds. They are steadily losing value with every rating's downgrade.

Historian/author, with a weekly radio show; inspiring, high

"anti-fascist". An ex Lyndon LaRouche follower

Apparently very active in late sixties, perhaps involved in SDS?
Slightly extreme ( an Anglophobe? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglophobia ); he's prone to

He speaks French, German, Italian; has lived in Europe; is now
